Jefrall Betancourt & Steve Morton

Origins of the Collaboration

Steve Morton and Jefrall Betancourt began their professional relationship in 2023 during a period of significant growth in the Telluride, Colorado high-end residential market. At the time, Steve was seeking additional design support to meet increasing demand.

Jefrall, then based in Chicago, had long been searching for the right mentor and the right body of work to align with his design ambitions. After reviewing Steve’s portfolio and ongoing projects, Jefrall immediately recognized a rare alignment in design philosophy and project caliber. Following several conversations and interviews — and persistent interest from Jefrall — the two began collaborating.

Soon after, Jefrall made his first trip to Telluride to join Steve on active projects, marking the beginning of a partnership rooted in shared values and complementary strengths.

Shared Philosophy & Complementary Strengths

From the outset, both architects recognized a strong philosophical alignment. Steve’s critical eye for graphical precision and disciplined design thinking deeply resonated with Jefrall’s own internal design standards.

Steve founded his practice in 1997 and brings nearly three decades of hands-on market insight, client relationships, and high-end residential expertise. Jefrall began his architectural career in 2007 and brings nearly two decades of experience, with particular strength in emerging architectural technologies and advanced digital workflows.

The integration of these strengths was natural. Steve’s long-standing experience and design rigor, combined with Jefrall’s technological fluency and forward-thinking implementation, create a powerful synergy.

Originally working primarily in AutoCAD, Steve supported Jefrall’s initiative to translate existing and new projects into Revit. Under Steve’s careful oversight and shared design discussions, the transition strengthened project documentation, coordination, and visualization. The result has been a refined collaborative process that merges traditional architectural discipline with advanced technological execution.

When clients engage both Steve and Jefrall, they benefit from nearly 50 years of combined professional experience — blending established expertise with contemporary innovation.

Mentorship & Professional Development

Beyond professional collaboration, the relationship has been deeply formative for Jefrall. For many years, he sought meaningful architectural mentorship. Under Steve’s guidance, he has refined his design thinking, strengthened his graphical precision, and deepened his understanding of the high-end residential market.

Steve’s influence has been instrumental in Jefrall’s professional growth. He not only provided project leadership and guidance, but also offered flexibility and support that allowed Jefrall to complete his final two state examinations and become a Registered Architect.

The mentorship extends beyond technical development — it reflects trust, respect, and a shared commitment to architectural excellence. The dynamic between them challenges and strengthens both individuals, allowing each to bring their best to every project.

Partnership & Market Reach

Depending on project scale and demand, Steve and Jefrall collaborate as joint partners.

Steve’s primary markets include California, Colorado, and New York.
Jefrall’s work extends across Florida, Puerto Rico, and Colorado.

Together, their geographic reach and combined expertise allow them to strategically partner on projects that benefit from their aligned design philosophy and complementary skill sets.

A Personal Note

At its core, this partnership is built on respect and shared passion. Outside of the office, when schedules allow, the two can often be found mountain biking through Telluride — with Steve occasionally witnessing Jefrall’s enthusiastic (and sometimes unplanned) dismounts.

The professional collaboration is serious and disciplined — but it is grounded in mutual trust and genuine camaraderie.
